‘On the 2 July one of the Shedfield Petanque Club’s founder members, Jamie Hartridge, passed away. He was a stalwart of the Club for many years and a font of knowledge about the early days of our Club and the wider petanque community. The attached newspaper clips, from April 1975, provide a flavour of the early days at our Club including the hosting of the national championships in 1975. In the newspaper article it is interesting to note that the owner of the Cobbett’s Restaurant, Mr Charles Skipwith, was trying to form a club to carry the name of Cobbett’s Boules Club!! ‘
On a recent bright Sunday morning, good use was made of the bench dedicated to the memory of Wendy and Lou Watkins. For those that do not know, Wendy and Lou were founder members of Shedfield Petanque Club, and the bench was funded by their children Wendy and Nick.
Seated in the centre of the photograph is Jenny with her husband Craig seated to her right.
The remainder of the people are some of the Club members taking a break from a hard morning of playing petanque!

Shedfield Petanque Club’s 2018 Christmas Dinner
The club held there annual post- Christmas dinner on Thursday 24th January at Avenue 141 restaurant in Fareham College. As can be seen from the photograph everybody enjoyed the convivial
company and the excellent food. The student chefs and front of house staff were very professional.
Special thanks must be given to Derek and Linda for organising the evening so that it ran without any hitches.
A Birthday Celebration at Shedfield Petanque Club
On Sunday the 2 December 2018 Shedfield Petanque Club celebrated the 90th birthday of one of our players,
Wendy Watkins.
For those not old enough to remember, Wendy and her husband Lou were very early members of Shedfield Petanque Club. Although Lou is no longer with us, Wendy has continued to play regularly and is still a stalwart member of the club.
In the morning we played petanque and Wendy demonstrated that she has lost none of her skills by winning her games. Below is a picture of Wendy in action.
At lunchtime we had a party for Wendy in the club pavilion which allowed her family, friends and club members to celebrate her birthday in some style.
To the right of Wendy, in the photograph below, is Peter Howarth. Like Wendy, Peter dates back to the early days of peteanque and he is a past president of the Southern Region and the British Petanque Association.
Wendy received many birthday cards, several bouquets of flowers and the assurance that we will be celebrating her 100th birthday in 10 years’ time!
